It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved sister, aunt and godmother, Roberta Mary Denny of Eskasoni at the age of 49. Roberta passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on September 20, 2018. Born in Sydney on September 9, 1969 she was the daughter of the late Robert and Phyllis Denny.
Roberta was a dedicated member of Holy Family Parish and St. Anne’s Mission. In 2018, she was declared the Queen of the Jown and Sai Gatherings. Although Roberta had great physical struggles, she carried her burden with grace and a sense of humour that kept everyone laughing. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, playing card games like PEI Bingo and “whatugot”, as well as TV Bingo. Roberta loved driving around on her scooter, karaoke and bon fires. She never missed a birthday or special event; she was always there for her family, friends and community. Roberta had a great love for her numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren, and was supportive of them.
Roberta is survived by her step mother, Fran Young; godmother, Annie Janet Toney; her sister, Rita Denny (Roger); step sister, Gaetanne Stevens (Chuck); brothers, Bob (Sheena) Denny, Vincent J. Denny, Trevor Denny, John Simon Denny (Dyna); step brothers, Chris (Carla) Stevens, Josh Stevens, Shayne (Maxine) Stevens; godchildren, Rolanda Dennis, Plansue’ Toney, Mackie Gould and Kaylei Denny, and many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.
Roberta was predeceased by her grandparents, Rita and John Simon Denny, Mary and John R Denny; step-grandmother, Flora; her parents; companion, Kevin Youton; godfather, John Lenard Toney, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
We would like to give thanks to Roberta’s special friends, who helped care for her, the Dialysis Unit, the Cancer Center, Eskasoni Clinic and Health Center staff and Palliative Care Unit.
Visitation for Roberta will be on Tuesday, September 25 at 7 p.m. at the Eskasoni Gabriel Center. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 27 at 10:30 a.m. at the Eskasoni Holy Family Parish with burial and salite to follow.
