He served in many parishes in Ontario; St Augustine’s Hamilton, St David’s Welland, St James Dundas before being appointed Rector of Christ’s Church Cathedral and Dean of Niagara in Hamilton in 1973. In 1985 he was elected Suffragan Bishop in the Diocese of Toronto. He retired in 1993 but kept busy at many other parishes including twice as the Interim Dean at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Buffalo. Joe was known for his leadership in the Canadian Church throughout his ministry, deeply involved in liturgical development including the Book of Alternate Services (BAS). Known for his sense of humour and his love of family Jo was our proud father, our doting Buppa… always wanting to counsel us through the famous Fricker fireside chats, hear of our adventures, share in our accomplishments and counsel us through tough times. Always happy and optimistic and whenever asked by family or friends how he was, he always replied, “I’m perfect” and to all of us he was perfect. May we ever grow and stay together with all the faith hope and love he had for us all. Funeral to be held at Christ’s Church Cathedral (252 James St. S. Hamilton), Monday November 5th, 11:00am
Reception to follow in Myler Hall. Sincere thanks to all the nurses and staff at Joseph Brant Hospital and to Dr. Sun and Fornassier for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to the Alzheimer’s society of Canada. Online condolences can be made at www.dbburlington.ca
