OBITUARY
Richard Neil Woodrow
September 19, 1942 – December 5, 2018
WOODROW, Richard Neil
It’s with much love and even more sorrow that we say goodbye to our beloved Dad, Grampa, husband and friend, Neil Woodrow. Our hearts are heavy, and our Carwithen eyes are crying, but we have been so blessed to have him with us for the past 76 years. He was deeply loved by many people.
Neil was born, raised, and lived his entire life here in the beautiful Comox Valley. He grew up in Grantham, and moved to the original Carwithen farm on Headquarters in the mid 70’s. He was one of the last graduating classes at Tsolum High School and went on to have a successful 32-year career as the owner-operator of Searle’s Shoes. After retiring from retail in 1991, Neil became a well-known and greatly respected Comox Valley Realtor – a career that brought him a great deal of fulfillment and pride. His intimate knowledge of the Valley, professional demeanour, and keen business sense made him a leader in the local business community. A long time Rotarian, and director on the Vancouver Island Real Estate Board, he was a mentor and friend to many. He knew absolutely everyone! He finally hung up his license in June of 2017, when he was diagnosed with brain cancer.
On any given day, you could find him in the barn making wine with the guys, out for lunch with his Friday Lunch Bunch, golfing with his buddies or puttering around the farm. He loved road trips and travelling the world, whether by motorhome or cruise ship, and he was always up for a game of cards.
Predeceased by his brother Danny and parents Alan and Margaret (Carwithen), Neil leaves behind his soul mate and wife of 25 years, Kristie, children Tony and Teri (Jeff) and their mother Marianne, step-daughters Chettie (Warren) and Sachen (Bill), and seven amazing grandchildren – Aidan, Brendan, Keanna, Wyatt, Lou Lou, Evan and Georgia. He was so, so proud of each and every one of you. He also leaves behind his brothers Bruce (Cathie) and Robin (Diana), and sisters Deb (Brian) and Gerry (Mike), a myriad of cousins, nieces and nephews, and many, many friends and colleagues.
Please join us as we celebrate Neil’s life on Thursday, December 20th at 1pm at Crown Isle Golf Course. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Neil’s name to the Comox Valley Hospice Society at comoxhospice.com, or the Courtenay Rotary Club Fund.
