Mom passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness 2 months shy of her 92nd birthday. Predeceased by husband Jack and daughter Jean. Survived by her daughter Val McIntosh (Wayne), son Russ Read (Lynn), son-in-law Ron Apland, 5 grandchildren and 9 great- grandchildren. Mom’s family emigrated from Derry, Ireland when she was just 1 year old. Settling in Shoal Lake, Manitoba she helped on the family farm before becoming a hairdresser where she and Dad met, married and started a family. They moved to Nanaimo to work at the family restaurant (the Island Topper) before eventually moving to Vancouver. Retirement dreams took them to Oyster River on Vancouver Island where they built their home. Four years ago Mom moved back to the Lower Mainland to be closer to her children. Many thanks to all of the wonderful staff at Sunridge Gardens in Langley where mom lived for the past four years… Mom thought the world of you. Mom held our hands when we were growing up, and she will hold our hearts forever.
No service by request.
A private burial was held on October 18, 2018.
