Obituary of Ray Gallichan
Ray, of Regina, SK passed away after a brave fight with cancer on Monday, August 27, 2018 at the age of 70 years. He was predeceased by his wife Fernanda Rotondi (Gallichan); mother Ella Langlois (Gallichan); father Howard Gallichan; sisters, Alice Gallichan and Arlene Gallichan; and brother Francis Gallichan.
Ray is survived by his son John (Alison) Gallichan of Calgary, AB; his daughter Jennifer Gallichan of Regina, SK; four grandchildren, Bane, Eva, Sophia, and Hunter; mom Rowena (Roberts) Gallichan; sisters, Iona Kelly (Hubert), Janet Rose (Tom), Ann Murrin (Con), Peggy Foley (Henry) and Gail Cote (John); brothers, Ronnie Gallichan (Hazel), Francis Gallichan (Sherry), Eric Gallichan, Andrew Gallichan (Linda) and Michael”Nicky” Gallichan (Cathy); The Gallichan Family; Mom’s Family; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles.
Brief Outline of Early Life: Dad was born in Gaspe Quebec on February 21, 1948. He was predeceased by his father, mother, two sisters, and a brother. At the age of 16 Dad moved to Cambridge for work, and from there joined the military in April of 1966. Dad went through his training in St. Jean Quebec then was posted to Val D’Or Quebec where he met and married his wife, Fernanda Rotondi on October 26, 1968 in Val D’Or.
Work Done in Lifetime: Dad served in the Canadian Airforce as a Military Police Officer retiring after 30 years of service in October 1996. During his time in the military he served at various posting throughout Canada, served a peacekeeping mission in the Middle East, and was posted overseas to Europe twice. He continued to participate in Legion activities and marched in Remembrance Day ceremonies each November 11.
Interests and Achievements: Dad loved sports, especially baseball and hockey with his favourite teams being the Toronto Blue Jays and the Montreal Canadiens. After retiring from the Military he worked at Canadian Tire with Mom – both of them working and doing any odd jobs that needed to be done in the store. Dad picked up the travel bug from Mom, spending time traveling overseas, cruising, and visiting Florida annually. Throughout the years Dad always loved to learn about and research his family history. They always made it a priority to always keep close ties to their families making regular visits to family throughout Canada and the United States. They could always be counted on to be there when you needed them.
Funeral Service will be held at the Speers Family Centre, 2333 Cornwall Street, on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ray’s name to, Regina Palliative Care Unit Inc, 4F-4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, SK, S4T 1A5.
