Randall Lee Kurtz
December 18, 1951 – November 12, 2018
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Randal Lee Kurtz (known to all as Randy.)
Born and raised in the Kenora area, Randy was known to all and a friend to most. He was an active part of the community participating in many charitable causes and a member of organizations such as the Legion and the Kenora Agricultural Society. The KAS in particular, was a lifetime obligation for him. He was a member for nearly his entire life serving in whatever capacity was required of him including a 2 year tenure as president.
He enjoyed sports, whether he was playing, watching or coaching. If it involved a ball, stick or ice he was a fan. An active man, Randy enjoyed running. Even after his diagnosis he would continue to participate in events such as the Terry Fox Run and the Relay for Life. One of his proudest achievements was training for and running in the Manitoba Marathon.
A man of many talents Randy had several different careers during his lifetime. From food distribution to construction to selling plumbing supplies he did it all but his favorite job by far was his last one. Being Monsieur Kurtz the beloved custodian of STE-Marguerite Bourgeous was his true vocation. He would sing his way down the hall as he went from room to room. He truly enjoyed coming in to work and seeing all the smiling happy children in their class rooms always ready to lend a hand.
After a hard fought battle with cancer, Randy died surrounded by loved ones in the early hours of November 12 in the same hospital that he was born in. He is survived by his two children, Lee and Andy, siblings and their spouses: (Jack) and Penny, Larry and Carol P, Carol, Gayle and Dave, Doug and Kevin, sister Joanne and Robert, Terry and Susan, Donna and Greg, Maureen and Mike. He also leaves behind a beloved extended family and many many great friends. He is beyond pain now but not beyond us. He remains forever in our hearts.
A Viewing will be held at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Thursday, November 15th, 2018 at 7:00 pm with Funeral Services on Friday, November 16th, 2018 at 10:00am at Notre Dame Church in Kenora. His Pallbearers will be nephews Robert, Joseph, Cole, Jake, Eric and Mike Robertson.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations to The Terry Fox Foundation or the Kenora Rotary Club Splash Pad.
