It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Ralph Parsons, who died in his sleep while at home on November 20th, 2018. He was 72 years old.
Born and raised in Shropshire, England, Ralph was the son of Monica (née Medlicott), whom he loved dearly and who left us only just two years ago. Older brother to Elizabeth (Michael) and Alistair (Jackie). His early 20s and a touch of wanderlust brought him to Toronto where he would meet and spend several wonderful years married to Maria (née Carney). Ralph was the very proud father of Caroline (Joseph) and Jennifer (Ryan) who brought him immense happiness and comfort until the end. He was a kind and loving Grandad to the lights of his life, his five grandchildren: Daniel, Lilly, Colette, Oliver, and Pearl.
Throughout his career as an Engineer, he was the master of no shortage of mines, trucks, and machinery. In addition to his work in Canada, Ralph’s expertise allowed him to work abroad in Ghana, Malaysia, and a more recent two years in New Caledonia in the South Pacific. He immersed himself wholly in new cultures and formed life-long friendships from his travels but always loved coming home.
Ralph’s loyalty to his loved ones was insurmountable. His innermost circle of friends had a history spanning over 60 years and was defined not only by their commitment to each other but also by an immeasurable number of lunches together at a local pub or fish n’ chips restaurant. His attachment to Shropshire was stamped deeply in his heart and he enjoyed many happy reunions with his childhood friends upon each return there, including a trip just this past August. Beyond these special friendships was the love of his family which was paramount in his life. Ralph’s daughters and grandchildren find comfort in knowing that they sparked immense joy and pride in him, and are so grateful to have shared so much time and family celebrations together over the last several months and years. They will forever remember his quiet but strong presence, his gentle kindness, and his sharp sense of humour.
Ralph’s family would like to acknowledge the care he received at Toronto Western Hospital’s intensive care unit during a time of severe illness in 2017. Their dedication to his recovery allowed his loved ones to witness an inner strength and commitment to life that will not soon be forgotten.
The family invites colleagues and friends to join us at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel (2357 Bloor St W, east of the Jane subway) from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday November 28th, 2018, with tributes and remembrances starting at 3 p.m. Reception to follow at Lambton Golf & Country Club (100 Scarlett Rd).
Ralph, you are sorely missed. You will stay forever in our hearts and inspire us to love as we were loved by you. We know you’re smiling, eyes are sparkling, and you’re looking very handsome in your white tuxedo… even if it’s a dress-down day in Heaven. xoxo
