BENNETT, Rachael
It is with deep sadness that, we, the family of Rachael
Bennett, regret to announce her passing on Friday, September 7, 2018,
at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born February 15, 1928, in North River, she was the daughter
of the late Kenneth and Josie (MacAskill) MacDonald.
Mom’s greatest joy was her family, having raised
several of her siblings. She enjoyed a good game of Rummoli and Bingo,
her kitchen counter always held fresh pies and
biscuits.
Rachael is survived by her husband, William
“Bill”; daughter, Judy (Rene) Dixon, Sydney; son,
Jeffery (Carolyn), Toronto; brothers, Harry, Gillis and Kenneth; half
brother Freddie, half sisters Dorothy and Laura, grandchildren, Dr.
Alison Dixon (John Mullane) and Sean Dixon (Colleen Boudreau). She was
affectionately referred to as “Biggie Nana” by her
great-grandchildren, Desmond, Roman, Francesca and
Linden.
Rachael was predeceased by her sisters, Anna, Jessie Mae
“Maizie”, Wilma and Phyllis and brothers, Malcolm
and Henry (in infancy).
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on
Tuesday, September 11 from 1-2 p.m., followed by a service in the
chapel at 2 p.m., with Archdeacon Brenda Drake
officiating.
Memorials may be made to the MS Society.
