With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Peggy Ann Buchanan, age 71, of Halifax, formerly of Bedford, on December 12 following a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born June 7, 1947, Peggy was the daughter of Marjorie (Chapman) and John “Jack” Pearce. Peggy was predeceased by her parents and her beloved husband, William Buchanan. She is survived by her brother John Pearce and sister-in-law Nadine, of Halifax, special aunt, Catherine “Kitty” MacCallum, Delta, B.C., step-children Valerie, Bob, Glenn, Jeff, Steve, and several step-grandchildren. Peggy was a longtime civilian employee of the Department of National Defence, beginning her career at age 18 and retiring in 2004. Peggy was a consummate homemaker, exceptional cook and baker, and loved spending time with her family and friends. Funeral service to be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 15, at St. Francis by the Lakes Anglican Church in Lower Sackville, Rev. Mark Kingsbury and Rev. Ken Turner officiating. Arrangements entrusted to T.K. Barnard Funeral Home. Donations to the Janet Buchanan Memorial Bursary Fund in care of St. Francis by the Lakes Anglican Church, the Alzheimers Society of Nova Scotia, or Hospice Halifax. Peggy’s family would like to thank the staff at St. Vincent’s Nursing Home for the loving and professional care they provided over the past three years, as well as the compassionate support offered to us during Peggy’s last days.
