Orest John Fodchuk
1944-2018
It is with great sadness that the family of Orest John Fodchuk announces his passing on Monday, October 15, 2018, in Strathmore, AB at the age of 74 years old. He is survived by his sons Michael (Tracy) and Stephen (Marie-Andree’), his ex-wife Cory Fodchuk, his grandchildren Haddie and Harry, his sister Alice Wlos, aunt Olia Marchuk, his nieces and nephews, special friend Lucy Gotte, numerous cousins and friends. He is predeceased by his parents Steve and Annie (Kowalchuk) Fodchuk.
Orest was born on August 4, 1944, in Athabasca, AB to Steve and Annie Fodchuk and grew up on a farm on the outskirts of Athabasca with his older sister Alice. He attended Ferguson School and then completed his education at Edwin Parr Composite School in Athabasca. After graduating high school he moved to Calgary to attended SAIT and received his Petroleum Technology education. Orest spent over 25 years working for various oil and gas companies, he also had an entrepreneurial spirit as he ran his own consulting business and invested in real estate.
Orest married Cory Garvey and they had two sons Michael and Stephen who were raised in Calgary. Orest enjoyed many outdoor activities such as Hiking, Skiing, Camping, Boating, Curling and Golf. He was also very handy as he knew how to fix almost anything.
Orest really enjoyed watching his sons growing up playing both hockey and baseball over the years.
Orest was a member at St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Calgary, AB and after he moved to Strathmore AB spent the last few years volunteering for various organizations.
A funeral service will be held at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Peter and Paul in Athabasca, AB on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. Internment to take place at the St. Michael’s Cemetery – Greyville. Donations can be made towards the St. Michael’s Cemetery – Greyville or a charity of your choice.
