Nick Palamar
February 11, 1934 – January 9, 2018
Nick Palamar beloved husband of Sylvia Palamar of Canora and formerly of Stenen, SK, passed away at the Canora Hospital, on January 9, 2018, at the age of 83 years.
Nick was born to William and Natasha (Hnatiw) Palamar in the Ormside District, SK, on February 11, 1934. He attended Beaver Bank School, but cut short and sacrificed his education to help his parents with farm chores and assist in raising his brothers and sisters.
Nick married Sylvia Chabun and they were blessed with one son, Roy. A true farmer, Nick loved every aspect of farming and dedicated his life to the family farm north of Stenen, SK. He raised cattle and operated a mixed farm. With a special fondness for animals, Nick was drawn to tend to all animals with care and compassion. He led a simple life on his farm, surrounded with friends, animals and the love of nature to carry him through his life. Besides farming, Nick enjoyed hunting, trapping and playing cards. He was also known for pushing snow for a lot of people for many, many years. Nick farmed for over 69 years, then sold his farm and moved to Canora, SK, where he continued to reside until his passing.
He will be fondly remembered as a kind, gentle man with very thoughtful ways. He will hold a special place in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Nick was predeceased by his parents, William and Natasha; brother, Steve and his sisters: Olga Poworoznyk, Mary Chorney and Ann Burym. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sylvia; son, Roy (Geraldine); grandchildren: Randy, Jesse and Nikita; and sister, Rose Zacharias; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In Nick’s honour, Prayers will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 7:00 pm and the Funeral Service on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 10:00 am, both from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora with Rev. Fr. Michael Faryna, officiating. Interment will follow in the Canora Cemetery. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Canora Hospital Auxiliary, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Nick Palamar. The Palamar family wish to express their appreciation for the many expressions of kindness and for the attendance of Nick’s services.
