The family sadly announces the passing of Nicholas Edward Paul, 69 of Membertou on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with his family by his side.
Born in Sydney to the late Edward and Mary Ann ‘Alex’ Paul, he was raised by the late Joe ‘Jibity’ F. and Mary (Paul) Gould.
As a young man, he moved to Mapleton, Maine. Nicholas loved the outdoors where he worked on farms and as a labourer during the harvesting season. During the 70’s he lived and worked in Caribou. He returned home to Membertou because of declining health and resided at Harbourstone Enhanced Care. You could often see him on his many walks which included walking to Tim Horton’s to meet up with friends.
He is survived by brothers Cameron (Diane) Paul, Membertou; Ernest (Miney) Johnson, Eskasoni; sister Loretta (Ben) Sylliboy, Eskasoni; sister-in-law Linda and brother-in-law Fred. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister Mary Catherine (Paul) Googoo, brothers John Alex (Maine), Greg Johnston and Peter Paul.
Visitation will begin at 7 pm on Thursday, May 31 at the Gabriel Center, Eskasoni. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Saturday, June 2 at Holy Family Church with Fr. Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
