Lovingly Remembered
Murdo was born in Wallaceburg, ON and moved to Calgary in 1948. Murdo (Mac), beloved husband of Florence of 66 years, passed away on May 26, 2018, at the age of 87. He is survived by his 5 daughters, Donna (Clay), Connie (Doug), Carol (Gary), Linda (Rob), Christina (Mike), 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, his brother Doug (Mary) and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Margaret and his 7 siblings.
Murdo was proud to be a member of the Calgary Fire Department for 34 years, retiring in 1987 as District Fire Chief. He was instrumental in initiating the ‘Hazardous Materials Division’ and was on the executive board of Local 255. He was also a member of Kiwanis International.
He dedicated his life to serving others and he received many accolades and awards in many areas, including the ‘Order of Canada Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal’. Murdo loved to spend time helping out at the church, golfing and enjoying their cabin in Radium. He was an elder and active member of Grace Presbyterian Church for 65 years. He will be remembered by his family, friends, church family and colleagues who knew him.
