Milan Yagar December 15 1945 December 22 2018

Life Legacy
YAGAR, Milan – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather on December 22, 2018, after a courageous 16-year battle with cancer. Surrounded by his family, Milan left this world to live an eternity free from pain and suffering. Milan leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 48 years, Jennifer. He also leaves behind his adoring children Jody (Timothy) Gravelle and Michael (Maryann) Yagar. Loving grandfather or ‘YaYa’ as he was affectionately called by Michael and Emma ‘Lu-Lu’ Gravelle and Maya and Olivia Yagar. A better husband, father and grandfather could never be found, and we will be forever grateful for the gift of his love. Little brother to Joseph (Bonnie) Yagar, Sam (Caroline) Yagar and Mary Petura. Adored by his many nieces, nephews and cousins, including his Goddaughter Destiny Timmerman. He also leaves behind a wide circle of friends, each of whom touched him in many ways. Predeceased by his father Joseph (1990) and mother Matija (2018), as well as his father-in-law Stanley Coop (1980) and mother-in-law Margaret Coop (2015). Also predeceased by his very special niece Patti Montpetit (2018) and numerous aunts, uncles and longtime friends. Milan attended The University of Guelph and graduated with honours in 1975. He was ecstatic when his son attended the same university in 1995 and spent many happy times there ‘showing him the ropes.’ Milan worked at Norton Company and later retired from General Motors in 2010. A very hard working man, he did everything for his family. Family, friends and respect meant everything to him, and a kinder heart you would never find. He never let his illness dictate who he was and all that were blessed to know him knew he did it ‘his’ way. Milan’s passions included riding his Harleys and his vacations in Cuba with Jennifer, where he always made a point of bringing two suitcases – one for them and one full of staples for the locals. As many knew, grocery shopping or rather grocery ‘talking’ was another of Milan’s passions. A simple trip for lettuce often turned into a 3 hour discussion with friends old and new about anything from bargains to politics. His biggest passion was his family. From family gatherings to family vacations, he always made sure his family had the most amazing memories and learning experiences. Family was his first priority and he instilled this gift in all those he left behind to continue to honour his legacy and words of wisdom. Despite his tough exterior, Milan was a nurturer. Whether taking in wounded animals, welcoming a stranger in for a hot meal or having heart-to-heart talks where he could impart wisdom and invest time, Milan genuinely cared for anyone in need. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Adzich from Hospice Niagara as well as Megan and Christopher from Saint Elizabeth Healthcare, who allowed us to honour Dad’s final wishes of keeping him at home. A special thank you to Dr. Monica, Dr. Irish, Dr. Yokum and Dr. Briarly from Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, who were in his corner for every round. Friends are invited to call at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. Niagara Falls, visiting Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm and Saturday 11 am to 1 pm. A Funeral Service in celebration of his life will follow Saturday at 1 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Lundy’s Lane Cemetery. In memory of Mr. Yagar, memorial contributions may be made to The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation or Hospice Niagara and would be appreciated by his family.
