Obituary
It is with breaking hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Terrence Entwistle, on November 14, 2018. Born in Kyllburg, Germany, on June 23, 1964, Michael passed away peacefully with family and friends around him after a valiant battle with cancer that began in March 2015. Michael lived his life to the fullest, always modelling his motto, “Courage without fear,” and surrounding himself with music. He was an avid mountain biker, golfer, snowboarder, hockey player, windsurfer and runner, and even after losing the use of his left leg, he continued his active pursuits, playing sledge hockey, sit-skiing, hiking and golfing—albeit a bit of a different game than before. Dedicating his professional life to sales and marketing, selling was a natural fit with Michael’s gift for language and detail. Even after retiring from the profession, he continued to practice his techniques of persuasion and staging at home. Reflecting on his adventures and accomplishments, Michael professed that nothing had changed his life for the better more than his wife and his love, Carolyn: “My partner, my rock, and my best friend!” And Carolyn feels the same way.
Michael is survived by his devoted wife Carolyn; his two children, Bradley and Rebecca (Thor); his aunt Annalie (his second mom); his mother-in-law, Irene; his loyal furry terrier, Finian McCool; and many other cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and close friends. He is predeceased by his mother, Else; father, James; uncle, Lenny; father-in-law, Leo; brother-in-law, Michael; and close friend, David.
Michael and his family would like to thank the staff at the BC Cancer Agency, Vancouver General Hospital, and G. F. Strong Centre for supporting Michael throughout his battle, appreciating his dry sense of humour and valuing his dignity, and the St. John’s School community for allowing Carolyn to be by his side to the very end. We are extremely grateful for your kind support.
Michael’s charm, wit, zest for life and loving care will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Please join his family in celebrating Michael’s life at the Tenth Church, at 11 West 10 Avenue, on Friday, November 23, at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made in Michael’s name to the BC Cancer Agency.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Michael Terrence Entwistle June 23 1964 November 14 2018..
