Megan Wolfe
Megan was born on August 13, 1929 in Rocky Mountain House on their family farm where she spent the first 13 years of her life. She always remembers the farm life as very difficult, but immensely rewarding, giving her an appreciation of the value of “hard work.”
Megan obtained a basic rural education up to the age of 13 when she left home to train, initially as a hairdresser; her passion, however, was found to be in bookkeeping, which was the skills that she utilized all of her life.
Megan married in 1958 to Jeff S. Wood and had twin boys in Edmonton, Alberta. In 1964 the family moved with the two boys back to Rocky Mountain House where they built the Walking Eagle Motor Hotel. A few years after living in Rocky Mountain House, they had the desire to go back into farming, on the family Homestead, a tract of land in Batery, Alberta for 5 years. This life was tough and almost unimaginable and the family separated with Jeff Wood Sr. moving back to Texas.
Megan moved to Dawson Creek in 1968 to raise two boys as a single parent. Being as determined as she was very proud, that she was able to do this independently, she worked for a company called Borek Construction as a head bookkeeper (1970).
In 1970, Megan fell in love with Ted Wolfe and they were together for 44 years until her passing. Ted and Megan operated a successful home rental business named Thrifty Rentals for 20 years. They retired in 1992 to start their next chapter in life, which included a move to Kelowna for better weather (Megan had contracted rheumatoid arthritis when she was in her early forties).
The next 10 years of their life were spent travelling and experiencing the world, until they picked their winter home in Palm Springs. This second home brought them a whole new joy in life, as they settled down in the winters with friends, adventure, entertainment and golf.
In 1996 Ted and Megan moved back to Red Deer and built their final home in Sylvan Lake. It was Megan’s dream home for her final years, which was spent around home with friends and family.
Megan had a great love of life and created many long-lasting friendships that she held onto for 50 plus years. She also developed a very close friend with Jed’s wife Alison and their time together was very precious to the both of them.
Megan always referred to the early farming years, speaking highly of her dad, her mom, her brothers and her sisters. It was this tough life that she built her value system from; hard work, discipline and positive celebration.
Megan is survived by: husband Ted Wolfe, her twin boys Jed (Alison) Wood, Jeff Wood, stepchildren Brad Wolfe, Kimberlee Wolfe, and Mike Wolfe; grandchildren, Randi (David) Wood-Dittmer, Blake Wood (Emily Reid), Jeff Wood Jr., Jared Wood, Alex (David Horner) Wood, Shella (Tyler) Pangborn, Kyle (Kristi) Rookes; great grandchildren, Arely Pangborn, Cameron Pangborn and Lennon Rookes.
Megan is predeceased by parents, John and Dora Morgan, siblings, Victor Morgan, Clifford Morgan, Harold Morgan, Margaret Morgan and Madge Knutson and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will take place May 11, 2018 at 11:45 a.m. at Tiffany’s, 3515 Gaetz Ave, Red Deer, AB. A private graveside service for family will be held at Lakeview Cemetery, Sylvan Lake, AB.
