It is with heavy hearts that the family of Dorothy Ruth McMillan announce her passing on December 17, 2018 at the age of 88. Beloved wife, mom, gramma, and great-gramma.
She is survived by her loving husband Gordon of 66 years; her sons Bruce and Brian (Debbie); daughter Donna Lee (Dave); grandchildren Kyle (Carrie), Marc (Poonam), Chad (Nikki), Chantal (Tim) and Travis (Nicole); great-granddaughter Blake; and great-grandson Decker. She is predeceased by her parents Keith and Dorothy Anderson, brother Milt and sisters Shirley and Ruby.
Dorothy was born in Calgary, AB on July 4, 1930. After a short career with Shell Oil, she met Gordon and they were married in 1952. Shortly thereafter she quit work to focus on raising their family. For 50 years, she spent summers in Kelowna at their lake house, driving the boat for the kids to ski, canning fruit, making pickles and carrying on a 100 year tradition of making her famous mincemeat. Winters were spent in her other favorite place, Maui.
Doe lived in Calgary her entire life until 5 years ago when she made Kelowna her permanent home. She loved sitting in her favorite chair looking out at the lake, tending to her rose garden, watching the ducks swim, visiting with the neighbors, and she especially loved her outings with her friends and golf buddies.
She was an amazing lady who was loving, kind and friendly to all. She never missed an opportunity to make a joke or flash her big smile. There wasn’t a morning that went by that she didn’t accomplish the daily crossword puzzle. Her family was her everything, and she loved and was so proud of her kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank all of Mom’s many friends and family for their love and support, the staff at KGH, especially Ambulatory Care, and Dr. Jennifer Parsons for providing such compassionate care to our sweet Mom.
