Mary Lylyk
We regret to announce the passing of Mary Lylyk (nee Chez) at the age of 89 years on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at St. Paul’s Hospital, Saskatoon, SK.
Mary was born May 15, 1929 in Podemszczyzna, Lubaczow, Poland to Katherina (nee Hresevich) and Elia (Alex) Czyz. In 1936, Mary immigrated to Arran, SK with her mother and brother Volodymyr (Walter) Chez. Mary married Mike Lylyk on May 6, 1950 in Arran. In 1954, they moved to Denare Beach, SK with their two children. After Mike’s passing, Mary moved to Flin Flon, MB. In 1999, she moved to Saskatoon. Mary had an indomitable spirit and a great sense of humour. She enjoyed engaging in conversation with anyone who had time to visit, reminiscing the past or discussing current events. Mary will be missed and never forgotten.
She leaves to mourn: a daughter Karen (Stanley) Matz of Regina, SK and granddaughter Carlyn of Ottawa, ON; and a son Vladimir/Wally (Maureen) Lylyk of Denare Beach, and three grandchildren: April (Ian) Bunting and great granddaughters Ember and Harper of Edmonton, AB; Natalie (Kris) Lima and great granddaughters Olivia and Reagan of Edmonton, AB; and grandson Michael Lylyk of Burnaby, BC.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Mike (1981), parents Elia Czyz (1989) and Katerina Chyz (2000); brothers Alexander (1946), Yaroslaw (Russell) (1968), Ephriam (Sam) (1988) and Walter (2000).
Mary is survived by her sister Katherine Fedirko of Saskatoon; brother Roman (Gail) Chez of Coldstream, BC; sister-in-law Olga Prebushewski of Edmonton, AB, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private family Prayer Service was held on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. and private family Funeral Service on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Both services were held at the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of Holy Trinity in Saskatoon. Interment in Woodlawn Orthodox Cemetery followed.
Memorial donations can be made in memory of Mary to a charity of the donor’s choice.
