Mary Agatha Anne O’Grady Savage, aged 83, passed away peacefully on the morning of January 08, 2018 at the O’Neill Centre in Toronto after a lengthy battle and decline from various illnesses. Born in Kinvara, Ireland on June 20th, 1934 daughter of John Peter O’Grady and Anne Bridget O’Grady she grew up alongside her brother Martin O´Grady (1986).
After graduating from University College Galway (UCG) she began her teaching career in Switzerland. During this time, she attended the 1960 Rome Olympics where she met her future husband Patrick Daniel John Savage (2009).
Moving to Toronto with Pat after their marriage in 1966, Mary Agatha subsequently spent the bulk of her career in special education at Brockton High School before retiring from Western Technical Commercial School in 1996. Her own battles with breast cancer in the 1970’s would eventually lead to her long running work volunteering with Canadian Cancer Society, organizing and raising awareness and funds in particular for the annual Terry Fox Run.
Mary Agatha’s main creative outlet later in life was horticulture and she eventually earned a diploma as a Master Gardener from the University of Guelph. This, along with her love for travel and languages, would remain constants until her unfortunate cancer relapse in 2006.
Left to honor Mary Agatha and remember her love and passion for life are eldest son, Patrick Daniel O’Grady Savage and his wife Julia (Noonan) Savage along with their two boys Declan and Ronan; and her younger son Martin Francis O’Grady Savage,his former wife Cağla Soykan and their sons Martin Efe and Aydin Spencer Savage. She will also be greatly missed by her loving cousins the O’Grady family from Connecticut and Melvin family from Michigan as well as many dear friends.
