Gross, Marlene Ann – of Hanover, passed away at Hanover and District Hospital on July 8, 2018, in her 88th year. Marlene was the daughter of Thomas and Christena (nee McCormick) Hughes of Irish Lake. Predeceased by her husband Francis Ernest Gross, brothers James, Leo, Francis, Angus and Raymond Hughes and sisters Helen Hughes and Colleen Grischow. Survived and lovingly remembered by her sons Francis-Joseph Gross of Hanover and Thomas Murray (Suzanne) Gross of Ottawa, daughter Barbara (Paul) Deeves of Leamington, sisters Mary Lambertus of Walkerton and Irene Hunt of Kitchener, grandchildren Tommy Lee (Diane Findlay) and Kathryn (Nick) St. Pierre of Ottawa and Christopher (Theresa) Deeves of Guelph, six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Marlene was bookkeeper and co-owner of Gross Plumbing, Heating and Electrical. A faithful life member of the Catholic Women’s League, founding member of Hanover’s St Vincent de Paul Conference, life member of the Hanover & District Hospital Auxiliary, Marlene was also involved in many other community organisations including Meals on Wheels, St John Ambulance Nursing Division and canvassing for many charitable organisations. Both Marlene and her husband Francis were on the Holy Family Building Committee. Marlene participated in the initial stages and preparations of the 7th Avenue group home for HARC Inc. An avid reader, Marlene was a frequent patron of the Hanover Public Library, over the years requesting many new acquisitions.
Memorial donations to the Francis and Marlene Gross & Family Burse (Congregation of the Resurrection), St Vincent de Paul Society (Hanover Conference), Holy Family Church Building Fund or Hanover & District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
Visitation will be held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-8:30 pm with Vigil Rites at 8:30 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 11:00 am, at Holy Family Church (352 10th Avenue, Hanover). Father Gary Schlack officiating. Interment in Holy Family Cemetery, Hanover.
