Obituary of Margaret Trentham
Margaret Marie Johnson was born on February 6, 1936 at home at Strachan, Alberta. She passed away on October 31, 2018 at the Olds Hospital. She was the firstborn child to Paul and Mildred Johnson and was 12 years old when her brother, Bob, was born. She attended school at Prairie Creek School, south of Rocky Mountain House. She found her way to Three Hills, Alberta working as a telephone operator as well as at the local bakery owned and operated by Pete Raffan. It was at this time she met George Trentham. They were married June 25, 1955 and moved to the farm east of Three Hills. Lloyd George was born September 22, 1956 and Deborah Anne on August 21, 1957. The family was complete. Margaret farmed with George and became his spare school bus driver as well. Margaret enjoyed many extra-curricular bus trips – one of the fondest a trip to Salt Lake city, Utah when she and George took a busload of 4H students there. She drove bus to countless volleyball tournaments when Lloyd and Debbie were playing. She was probably the longest serving secretary of Three Hills Minor Hockey, staying on long after Lloyd left the system. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge, Royal Purple Lodge and the Royal Canadian Legion.
Life changed for Margaret on December 4, 1982 when she came home from town on a snowy afternoon to find that George had passed away in his chair when an aneurism burst in his heart. He was 57. She moved to the trailer court in Three Hills in 2000 but was happy to know that oldest grandson Derek was moving onto the farm. She continued to drive school bus until she was 65. She also drove the Senior’s Outreach bus. From the trailer, she moved into Golden Hills Lodge but wanting more independence moved to Robertson Manor. In April of 2018 she moved to Seasons Encore Retirement Residence in Olds, Alberta.
Margaret is survived by her two children- Lloyd and Colleen Trentham of Three Hills; and Debbie and Jim Barkman of Three Hills; four grandsons – Derek and Stacie Trentham of Three Hills, Stuart and Kiza Trentham of Rocky Mountain House, Aaron and Teegan Trentham of Airdrie, Tom and Katie Hannam of Airdrie; nine great grandchildren – Alexa and Carson Trentham; Stuart, Jack and William Trentham; Tayten and Braysen Trentham, Kaia and Reese Hannam; as well as extended grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandson – Tammy Hannam and Andrew Fairn of Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia; Lenore and Kevin Neufeld of Linden (Ashley and her son Logan, Melissa, Stephanie, Taylor); Marshall and Raquel Barkman of Linden (Jesse, Layne and Travis); her brother Bob and Deb Johnson of Jarvie, Alberta and their children Stacey Johnson of Edmonton, Jenny and Steven Bohay (Mackenzie, Tanner and Chase); and sister-in-law Evie Scott of Red Deer County.
