Marcella Elizabeth Weselake 2018

Obituary Overview
Marcella Elizabeth Weselake
Peacefully and on her terms, surrounded by the love of her family, Marcella Elizabeth (Liz) Weselake kept that open rendezvous with the love of her life, husband Bill, on the balmy dawn of August 12, 2018.
Mom was born in Sydney Mines, Cape Breton Island, N.S. on September 1st 1933 to Margaret and Edward Halley. It was love at first sight for our Dad who was with the RCMP stationed in Cape Breton. They married on June 1, 1953 and moved back to Dad’s home town -Winnipeg. This green-eyed beauty was by his side for almost 50 years until Bill’s untimely passing in 2002 and she had missed him every single day since.
They settled in Garden City and had three children, Sue-Ann, Brad and Clint.
Liz was always a voracious reader, a cat lover but it was her passion for gardening that filled her days after retirement.
Two butterflies went out at noon
And waltzed above a stream,
Then stopped straight through the firmament
And rested on a beam:
And then together bore away
Upon a shining sea, —-
Though never yet, in any port,
Their coming mentioned be.
An excerpt from Two Voyagers- Emily Dickinson
Liz worked for 29 years, with the City of Winnipeg Library – West Kildonan Branch. Mom and Dad travelled for several years in their retirement. However, Dad’s health deteriorated and Liz became his devoted caregiver and advocate. She volunteered for several years at the Western Canadian Photographic Library.
She was predeceased by her parents; her mother-in-law Leona; brothers Peter, Ben, Daniel; sisters Victoria, Florence, and Margaret; and sister-in law Kaye.
Left to cherish her memory are daughter Sue-Ann Norton (Lloyd) from Terrace, BC; sons Brad and Clint (Karen) in Winnipeg and grandchildren Clint, Johnny, Jesse (Terrace), Kristyn, Nikki, Christopher and great-grandson Jaxon (Winnipeg); sister-in-law Pat Halley (Rexdale); cousin-in-law Jackie Thorney (Collingwood); nieces Joann, Karen, Sandy, Paula, Brenda, and Rhonda; as well as her entire extended family in Cape Breton.
The family would like to acknowledge the work of all the Home Care workers that allowed Liz to stay in her home. Thanks for the caring staff at Seven Oaks Hospital that made Mom’s last days peaceful.
Cremation has taken place, as Mom requested, and there will be no formal service. She will be reunited with her beloved Bill at Glen Eden in Winnipeg.
In lieu of flowers, her favorite charities were MADD and the World Wildlife Federation (WWF).
