Obituary of Malita Marshall
MARSHALL, Malita
Malita passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Wednesday, December 12, 2018. Malita Matilda Marshall was born in Jamaica on August 13, 1927, the eldest of eight children. After completing her secondary school education in Jamaica, she travelled to England where she studied midwifery at Bury St. Edmonds, followed by a course in general nursing. Upon completion of her studies, Malita worked as a nursing sister at Bury St. Edmonds for several years. She then moved to Cheltenham to study Public Health Nursing. This branch of nursing really appealed to her and she worked in that area for a number of years before emigrating to Canada in 1966, and accepting a position as a Public Health Nurse in the Weyburn/Estevan Health Region. Malita enjoyed living and working in Weyburn and made many friends, but after seven years she decided to complete her degree in nursing and moved to Halifax in order to attend Dalhousie University. Upon completion of her degree, Malita was transferred to the North Battleford Health Region, where she worked as the Supervisor of Public Health Nurses. Seven years later, she accepted a transfer to the Regina Rural Health Region as the Supervisor of Public Health Nurses. This was a position Malita held until her retirement in 1990. She enjoyed her retirement, spending time in her wee garden, taking piano lessons, and attending the symphony. Malita was an active member of the Sunset United Church congregation, the Canadian Club, and she enjoyed attending Globe Theatre. She was predeceased by her parents and two brothers. Malita leaves to mourn her passing three sisters, Daisy and Beverly, both of New York, and Yvette of South Carolina; three brothers, Renford of Ontario, Philbert and Raymond, both of Jamaica; sisters-in-law, Claudette, Greta, Myrtle, and Clementia; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Memorial Service will be held at Sunset United Church, 177 Sunset Drive, Regina, SK on Saturday, January 5, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Donations in memory of Malita may be made to Sunset United Church or Regina Wascana Grace Hospice, 50 Angus Road, Regina, SK S4R 8P6.
