Maitland Renee 19202018

Maitland Renée
1920-2018
Renée Maitland (98) of Riverview, passed away
peacefully at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont University Hospital Centre on
December 22, 2018. Born in New York City, NY, she was the daughter of
William and Mercedes (Thibault) Rolling.
Renée is survived by daughters Mercé
Wilhelm, Katie, Joanie (Bob); son Dan (Karen) and sister, Wilhemina
Roberts. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, 16
great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Ross and brother
Hubert Rolling.
Renée grew up in NYC and in France. She came to
Canada in 1937 to attend Acadia University, where she met and married
Ross Maitland in 1943. Together they raised their family in the United
States and Ottawa before retiring in Moncton in 1990.
The much beloved matriarch of her clan, Renée
possessed a boundless joie de vivre which throughout her long, happy
life manifested in many ways: the pleasure she took in gatherings of
family and friends; her frequent travels abroad; her appreciation of a
fine scotch and a lightly grilled filet mignon; her love of Chopin;
her delight in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A
lady of gracious Old World manners and charm, Renée
embraced the arts, majoring in music at Acadia University and then
teaching piano for years. Always active, she was a formidable bridge
player, an avid gardener, and an Outdoor Enthusiast who hiked many
trails late into life. Her amazing good health allowed her to take up
running and cross-country skiing in her mid-fifties, activities which
continued into her mid-seventies.
Renée’s long wonderful run is now over and she is
remembered with love for her generosity, kindness, light, and laughter
she brought to the lives of all who knew her.
A private family celebration of life will be held at a later
date. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Cobb’s Funeral Home
& Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd. Riverview, NB. Memorial
donations may be made to Nature Conservancy of Canada or the charity
of your choice.
