Leonard Len George Limpus February 10 1943 — November 14 2018

After a courageous battle against Cancer, Len passed away peacefully at RJH Victoria in the arms of his loving family. Len will be missed by his wife Judy and their children Adrian, Inalla, and Nathanial (Noriko).
Len was born in Vancouver to Dorothea Limpus, a concert pianist and piano teacher, and George Limpus, a renowned science and physics teacher. Len completed a degree in microbiology at the University of British Columbia in 1965.
After working as a fish quality specialist for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) in Vancouver for 3 years, Len accepted a job as a microbiologist running a laboratory for DFO in Prince Rupert. This is where he met his beloved wife Judith, an Australian nurse working in Canada. Len and Judy moved to Victoria in 1972 where they worked for 3 years. During this time, they purchased their family farm and were married on February 15, 1975 in Vancouver.
In 1975, Len accepted a job working for the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) where he worked for many years. While working at FAO, Len managed various fisheries quality control projects. This position allowed Len and his family to travel and live around the world; including 5 years in Rome, 2 in Brazil, 4 in Mozambique and 4 years in Canada as a consultant. During this time, Len became known as a world expert in the field of fish quality control and HACCP. In 1992, Len took on a new role as program manager for the ASEAN Fisheries Post Harvest Technologies development project in Singapore and worked for 5 years until the project came to a successful completion. After 1997 and until his passing, Len was self-employed as a consultant. He contributed to numerous projects and spoke at various international conferences as an expert in his field. During Len’s many years of work, he published numerous books and training manuals pertaining to fisheries post-harvest technologies.
Len was a passionate and brilliant man, who took pride in his career and his family. During his time away from work, he maintained his family hobby farm, tending chickens, sheep, llamas, geese, dogs, cats, fish, and many other animals over the years.
Being a generous and kind-hearted man, Len touched the lives of countless people and will be missed dearly by everyone. We love you Len may you rest in peace.
