Lawrence de Koning
It is with profound sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of their beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather Lawrence de Koning on Friday, November 30, 2018 at the age of 84 years.
Lawrence was predeceased by his father Laurens Sr., mother Johanna van den Bos, stepmother Frida Roos and one sister Ellen, one brother Tom and daughter-in-law Bev.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 63 years Alida, their children Tom (June), Jim (Bonnie), Shirley (Tsang) Jack (Christine), ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one sister Ann, two brothers Frank (Delima) and Fred (Diane), as well as many extended family and close friends.
Lawrence emigrated in 1953 from the Netherlands, then met and married Alida in 1955. He worked in the construction industry for 48years. He had a deep love for music, sport and the outdoors. Some of his greatest achievements were being a self-taught musician, a professional soccer player, and the building of the family cottage in Grindstone Provincial Park.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the St Boniface Palliative Care staff for their care and compassion shown during Lawrence’s stay.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 7, 2018 at the Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. with a reception to follow.
