Lavinia Hilda Thomas
Thomas (Glasgow), Lavinia Hilda “Veenie”, age 81, of East Preston passed away on February 25, 2018, peacefully at home.
Born in East Preston, a daughter of the late Aubrey and Hilda (Taylor) Glasgow.
Lavinia took pride in being a member of the East Preston United Baptist Church since July 1954. She was a faithful member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her family and extended family. Veenie was an avid bowler and she enjoyed dominos, sewing and reading. She was a community canvasser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Family meant everything to her and she had the ability to provide for her family throughout the storms of life.
Veenie is survived by her daughter, Pamela Thomas; sons, Clinton (Charlene) East Preston, Gerald, Lake Echo, Anthony (Patsy), New Glasgow, Lee Burton (Helen), Montreal; step-sons, Gerry (Carolyn) Taylor and Wendell Williams, Dartmouth; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Audrey Colley, Effie Johnston, Freda Williams, Rose (Spencer) Colley, Dolly Williams, Connie (Lewis) White; brothers Melvin and Rodney Glasgow all from East Preston; step daughter in law Charlotte Williams; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband William “Bobby” Thomas Jr.; daughters Shelley Thomas and Dorothy who passed in infancy; step-daughter Denise Ewing-Cain; step-son Wade Williams; sisters, Julia, Marjorie and Ruby Glasgow, Frances Thompson; brothers, Allen and Ivan Glasgow.
Visitation will be held from 7-9pm on Wednesday February 28 in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. The funeral service will be held at 1pm on Thursday March 1st in East Preston United Baptist Church, 206 Upper Partridge River Road, East Preston. Burial in the church cemetery.
A repast will held following the internment at the East Preston Recreation Center, 24 Brooks Drive, East Preston.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Red Cross Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation or the East Preston Daycare Center.
