The family are saddened to announce the passing of Larry Morningstar in his 88th year, beloved husband and best friend of Willo (Vrooman) Morningstar, married for 63 years.
Proud dad of daughters Carol (Dave Morningstar) and Colleen Morningstar (Larry Tufts) and son-in-law Robert (Sandra) Misiak.
Larry enjoyed his grandchildren Derek (Vicky) Morningstar, Andrea (Shaun) Clegg, Ty and Sara Johnsson, Ryan and Nicole Misiak and Will Nass. He also enjoyed his great-grandchildren Owen and Mya Morningstar. Brother-in-Law of Wally (Nancy) Vrooman.
Predeceased by his oldest daughter Cathy (Morningstar) Misiak (2005), his parents Claude and Grace Morningstar, sister Vivian Grierson, and twin brothers Ross & Russell.
Larry was born in Niagara Falls, and lived in Stamford Centre. He attended S.S. #4 School (John Marshall) and Stamford Collegiate.
He pursued his education at Western University, London, graduating with a B.A. in Business. He was employed with R.C. Young Insurance. In 1963, he brought Mortimer-Bampfield Insurance Business and changed the name to Morningstar-Bampfield, the oldest Insurance Business in Niagara Falls. Larry was known as an agent who explained everything in detail to his valued customers. He sold the business in 1973 and worked for the new owner, retiring in 1996. He lived a life dedicated to his family, friends and community.
Larry was a member of Samford United Church all his life, beginning with baptism. He was on the official board, had been an Elder and was Clerk of Session for 12 years. He was a member of the Men’s Club and past president, a charter member, along with his wife, of the Tri-M Club, and Co-President five times. He was also Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
Larry was a proud member of the Niagara Falls Lions’ Club and celebrated 63 years of perfect attendance. He was past president and chairman of many committees and took great pride in his service and accomplishments as a Lion. He was presented with the Melvin Jones, Judge Brian Stevenson and Helen Keller awards and life membership.
Larry enjoyed golf and curling, and enjoyed many trips and cruises with Willo, family and friends. Playing bridge was also his passion and games with the family.
Larry possessed faith, was a real gentleman, and loved people. He was a very honest, good-living husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be greatly missed.
Larry is resting at the Morse and Son Funeral Home, 5917 Main Street, Niagara Falls. Visitation will be held Wednesday Dec. 19 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00. His Celebration of Life will be Thursday Dec. 20 at 11:00 at Stamford Lane United Church, 3855 St. Peter Ave, Niagara Falls. Donations in Larry’s memory will be gratefully accepted by Alzheimers Society, Cancer Society, Stamford Lane United Church or the Canadian Transplant Association.
