Katherine “Kaye” MacNeil
MacNeil, (Sutherland),
Katherine Jeanette Ann “Kaye,” age 82,
Harbour Centre, Antigonish Co, formerly of Laggan, Pictou Co.
died September 17, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional
Hospital.
Born in Laggan on April 25, 1936, she was the daughter of the late
Tupper and Emma (Cavanagh) Sutherland. After her high school
graduation Kaye received her teaching certificate at Normal School in
Truro and started her teaching career at the age of 18 in a one room
school house in Laggan. She married Lawrence MacNeil in 1961
and they raised four children together. She continued a long
and rewarding teaching career at St. Ninian Street School and Morrison
School in Antigonish. She is fondly remembered by her students and she
always remembered the names of those she taught.
She loved to knit for loved ones, read, and go to yard sales. Her
greatest joy was spending time with her children and
grandchildren.
She is survived by her four children, all of Antigonish: Ralph (Cathy)
MacNeil, Velma (Willie) VanderLinden, Ann (Bill) MacFarlane, Douglas
MacNeil; 9 grandchildren, Jennifer, Mark, Katie, Kendra MacNeil; Sarah
VanderLinden; Frank, Mary, Lilly and Duncan MacFarlane, and many
nieces and nephews and their families.
She was pre-deceased by her husband Lawrence and her brother Ralph
Sutherland.
Visitation will be in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College
Street, Antigonish on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral
service will be held in St. James United Church on Thursday at 2:00 pm
with Reverend Peter Smith presiding. Burial in St. Columba Cemetery,
Lakevale
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or St.
