SCHREIBER, Karl Arnold Wilfred
A much loved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. Karl Schreiber, 82 of Westlock, Alberta passed away peacefully at Westlock Health Care Centre October 12, 2018. He had bravely confronted and fought COPD. He was born December 31, 1935 in Plamondon, Alberta.
Karl began his life with humble beginnings on a farm and started life on his own at 15 years of age working the railroad and bridge building/construction. Although just new to independence he, along with his brothers, sent money home to help his younger brothers and sisters.
He met his wife Enid at a community dance and they married in 1956. He then joined the oil rigs as a driller and then learned how to operate a caterpillar. In 1961 they began their journey and dedication of become successful farmers and formed Larkspur Farms near Dapp, Alberta. Karl and Enid worked relentlessly to acquire land, raise cattle and grow crops. In addition, they formed Schreiber Construction and worked in the oil industry building roads and lease sites. The last 17 years they have retired in Westlock.
Karl was a man who had a very strong work ethic and high energy. He had determined aspirations and goals and wanted a good life for his wife and daughters Edna and Konnie. He was a man who was not afraid to run with is convictions and was truly an original, honest man to a fault. He was an excellent story teller and enjoyed telling jokes. He was brave in adversity and nurturing to those who needed care and love. He formed many friendships in the area.
He is survived by his wife Enid of 63 years, Enid Schreiber of Westlock: daughter Konnie Kepford; grandsons Reid Schreiber McNamara, Cole Kepford and Aden Kepford; sisters Anne White and Irene Innes and many in-laws, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his amazing daughter Edna Ann Schreiber; mother Doris Sale, brothers Beverly, Ted, Tom Schreiber, sisters Freda Halloway and Valentine Trufyn. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Westlock Memorial Hall. Lunch to follow.
