Joyce’s Obituary
LINACY – Joyce Patricia Atwater, 81, Linacy, passed away peacefully, Sunday, November 18, 2018 surrounded by her family.
Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late William and Janet (MacIntosh) MacKenzie. Joyce was a devoted homemaker alongside her husband, Doug, raising their children in a nurturing and loving environment. She greatly enjoyed spending time with family and friends; was most happy being with people, especially when playing Bingo. Joyce was an adherent of First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be dearly missed by those she loved.
Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Doug Atwater; daughters, Shirley Atwater (Jackie DesJardins), Grand Falls, N.B.; Patti Blackman, Halifax; Margaret Atwater (David Buell), Amherst; son, Stephen (Laurel Nash) Atwater, Victoria, B.C.; grandchildren, Sarah and Alexander Blackman, Aaron and Angela Atwater, Michael, Nathan, Devon and David Buell; sisters, Joan Bartlett, Dartmouth; Marie Doucette, Dieppe, N.B.; Orpha (Jack) Woods, Boston, Mass.; Carolann (Gordon) Woods, Lower Sackville; Judy (Jim) Kennalley, Dartmouth; brothers, Billy (Emily) MacKenzie, Calgary, Alta.; Gary MacKenzie, Greenhill; Philip MacKenzie, New Glasgow; Donald (Marion) MacKenzie, New Glasgow; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by daughter, Jennifer; sisters, Lorraine Tofflemire and Shirley Clark; brothers, Weldon and Wayne MacKenzie.
Joyce’s life will be celebrated privately.
The Atwater family greatly appreciate the sensitivity and kindness shown to them at this time. The family are eternally grateful to her brother, Phillip for his unwavering love and support.
