Joseph Harvey Courtemanche
March 31, 1942 – August 2, 2018

With saddened hearts, the family of Harvey Courtemanche announces his passing on Thursday, August 2, 2018 in Vernon, B.C. at the age of 76. He was so much to so many – Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle and Friend and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Harvey was born on March 31, 1942 in Vancouver, B.C., the second of 5 children. He married Joan in 1963; Scott was born in 1967 and Buffy in 1972. In 2003, Joan was diagnosed with cancer and sadly lost her battle in December of that year. Harvey found love again with Linda Wadley and though they later separated, the two of them remained great friends until his passing.
Harvey took pride in the fact that he was able to become a millwright and welder by trade, despite only having a Grade 8 education. He eventually worked his way up into management in the copper and coal mines. After his “retirement”, he and Joan followed a life-long dream and began a successful woodworking and renovation business in Hinton, AB that he was able to continue until his health no longer allowed him to do so. He was truly a “Jack of all trades” and his advice was often sought by those around him.
Harvey is survived by son, Scott (Tracy) Courtemanche of Fernie, B.C. and children: Lane, Mat, and Wes; daughter, Buffy (Dave) Watson of Hinton, AB and children: Josh, Cody, and Marc; sister, Norma Orr of Vernon, B.C.; brother, Wilf (Laura) Courtemanche of Vernon, B.C.; sisters-in-law: Louise Devlin of Surrey, B.C. and Beverly (Jim) Russell of Armstrong B.C.; close friend, Linda Wadley Courtemanche and her daughters: Nadine and Mishel, and Mishel’s sons: Balazs and Milan. Harvey also leaves behind a number of nieces, nephews, other family members, and special friends, with whom he shared many great memories. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Armand and Evyline; his wife, Joan; sisters: Ann, and Brenda; and his friend and brother-in-law, Doug.
A Celebration of Harvey’s Life will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Schubert Centre, 3505-30th Avenue, Vernon BC.
Interment will occur in Hinton, Alberta at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial contributions in memory of Harvey may do so to a charity of personal choice.
