It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Arthur Forbes Buckley on December 21, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital with his loving family by his side. John was born on September 23, 1937 to the late Arthur and Mary (Ramsay) Buckley and was the wonderful husband to his wife of 59 years, Donna (Whitebone) Buckley.
John was a fighter. 37 years ago we were told that he wasn’t going to make it after a massive heart attack, but he made it. He lived his life to the fullest. He began his career as a signalman in the Army and was part of the Signal Corp and the RCEME, he then moved on to be a Constable on the Saint John Police Force, before finding his true niche in sales. He worked for many department stores and excelled at his career. He loved music but couldn’t sing; he had perfect penmanship but his signature was unreadable. Hockey was his game – he played, he watched – he thoroughly enjoyed everything about it. John had a great sense of humor and took great pride in being able to sneakily hide your things from you and then replace them after you’d searched everywhere for them, calmly stating “they were there the whole time.” He knew what he wanted, knew what he liked. He was an easy guy to talk to, an easy person to know, and a wonderful person to love who will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure to meet him. His favorite season was Christmas, so it fills our hearts that he is going to see his brother again, proudly wearing his tuxedo, during his favorite time of year.
John is survived by the love of his life, wife Donna, adored children; Christine (David) McLean, John (Marlana) Jr., Bruce (Peggy) and Diane (Matthew) Booker, 23 grandchildren, 13 (soon to be 14) great grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews and so many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Richard Buckley.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) where visitation will be held Sunday, December 23, 2018 from 2-3pm. A funeral service will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel immediately following the visitation. Memorial donations in John’s memory to the Saint John Animal Rescue League or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by his family.
