Joan Kathleen Moira Vawter 2018

Obituary Overview
Joan Vawter
With sadness, we are saying goodbye to our Mom, Kathleen Moira ‘Joan’ Vawter, who passed peacefully on November 2, 2018 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan.
Mom was predeceased by our Dad, Lloyd, her beloved husband of 65 years, on July 10 of this year; her parents, Bill and Freda Armstrong; two children, Sheralynne and Mark; brothers, Derrick, Innes, Ken and Lionel. She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Peterson (Kim) of Midale, Sask.; her son, Kelvin of Richmond, BC; grandchildren, Jason (Monica), Erica (Conrad), Kelsey (Jesse), Courtney, Jake (Hua), Tommy, Jordan (Care), Kataka, Tashaun and Demarco; twelve great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Our Mom was an active, committed member of her church for her entire life. She taught Sunday School, read lessons, participated as a member of lay clergy and was active in the ACW for many years. Mom was totally committed to our Dad for almost seventy years, as he was to her. Mom took great delight in her children and grandchildren, still enjoying visits with the little people who would occasionally come to visit. Mom seemed to light up in their presence. In turn, Mom was loved and cherished by all of her family. She will be dearly missed.
Mom took great delight in activities that she enjoyed pursuing with family and friends. She and Dad participated in an entertainment group for several years following their retirement. They spent many afternoons at seniors’ residences in Saskatoon, singing, telling stories and reciting poetry. Mom particularly enjoyed activities such as Saskatoon’s Mosaic Festival and lots of the faith and recreational programs offered through the church. She and Dad particularly enjoyed the activities of the Marriage Encounter programs they participated in for several years.
We always knew Mom for her sense of humor, as did many of our friends. Mom was not above being “in costume” when we arrived home from school, sometimes with friends in tow. Those days always ended up being quite entertaining.
During their retirement, Mom and Dad were able to do some travelling. A cruise and a trip to Europe were among the highlights. Mom enjoyed all of the time they were able to spend with friends and they were a part of a breakfast and coffee group that met regularly at the Lawson Heights Mall or the A&W on 51st Street. Even toward the end, when mobility was becoming a problem, Mom was always up for the effort to get to the A&W. She and Dad would slide across the parking lot, put the walker in the trunk of the car, and away they would go – at least a couple of times per week.
Life became a bit of a struggle for Mom during the past few years. She was, and we are, extremely grateful for all of the generous help and support that has been shown to Mom and to our family by friends, family, and numerous professionals who have been there for Mom. We are grateful for all of the friends Mom and Dad made at the Primrose Chateau over the past several years. The staff and residents were important people in Mom’s life. She received excellent care and made friends at Parkway Lodge in Weyburn as well, during her brief stay there.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. from Christ Church Anglican, 515 28th Street West, Saskatoon, with interment of ashes to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
