Jessie Macfarlane Rosdobutko (nee Cunningham)
It is with great sadness the family of Jessie Macfarlane Rosdobutko (nee Cunningham) announces her passing on May 21st, 2018 at Lake of the Woods District Hospital, after a month long stay at Birchwood Terrace twelve days short of her 91st birthday.
Jessie will forever be remembered by her loving husband of 63 years Joseph, children Ed (Lori), Carol, Jean-predeceased (Irvin) and John: grandchildren Eric (Jamie)and Heather; Ron (Courtney ), Cherise, Ticha (Aaron), James (Lacey) and Chantell: great grandchildren Rayne, Cody, Austin, Kira, Nick, Alexa, Cassie, Liam, Evena, Maeve, Dylan, Elliott, and great-great grandchild Sawyer.
Predeceased by parents John and Janet, siblings Joe (Barbara) and Jack (Joan) and survived by her sister Margaret (late Dougie, late Robert).
Jessie will also be dearly missed by Joe’s family, her numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
Jessie was born in Dumbarton, Scotland on June 2, 1927. She grew up in Clydebank. She survived the blitz and after the war went into nursing at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Glasgow. After graduation
Jessie joined Scandinavian Airlines and worked at Prestwick and Copenhagen airports. In 1953 Jessie and three other nurses came to Canada – first to Toronto then in January of 1954 Jessie and one other arrived in Red Lake. Shortly thereafter Jessie met Joe, marrying in 1955 and starting their family. They moved to Kenora in 1964 where they raised their family and have lived ever since.
Jessie nursed in Red Lake, the Lake of the Woods District Hospital and then at Pinecrest Home for the Aged where she worked as Director of Nursing until her retirement in 1989.
In retirement Jessie and Joe enjoyed twenty-three winters in Mesa, Arizona, summers boating and fishing on Lake of the Woods, trips to visit family in Scotland, the Ukraine and travelling in Canada.
Thank-you to Rose and all the other PSW’s who cared and supported Jessie for the last number of years. Thank-you to Jack and Millie who have been of great assistance to Jessie and Joe.
A Celebration of Jessie’s life will be held at Knox United Church at 1:00 pm June 4, 2018 with interment at Lake of the Woods Cemetery followed by a reception at the Kenora Legion.
Memorial donations in honour of Jessie, can be made to the Alzheimer Society, Diabetes Canada or Pinecrest Home for the Aged.
