Obituary Overview
Jean Eleanor Strachan
Eleanor Jean Strachan
20 January 1925 – 10 November 2017
Eleanor Jean Strachan (nee Holland), passed away Friday, 10 November 2017 in Surrey Memorial Hospital. Jean was born in Toronto on 20 January 1925 and moved to New Westminster, BC with her husband Jack in 1945. Both of her sons, William and Robert, were born in New Westminster. After several years of rental living Jean and her family moved to a newly built house in Whalley, where they resided until husband Jack passed away in 1975. She subsequently met her new husband William Strachan and they married in 1976. Jean and Bill eventually moved to the Newton area and lived there for over 30 years. She was predeceased by Bill in 2016. Jean was a life long member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles (FOE) and was a past provincial president. She was an avid gardener and could grow anything, give her a leaf off a plant and she would give you back a whole bush. Jean was also passionate about butterflies and indeed the house was full of paintings, needlework and many other depictions of them. Jean had no problem adapting to new situations, she was a drill press operator at a manufacturing plant during WW 2, moved with her new husband to Vancouver at the end of the war, raised 2 boys, worked in a doctor’s office, drove a pickup truck for several years, learned to grow her own vegetables and gave her love to a dour old Scot. Jean leaves behind 2 sons, Bill (Gail) and Bob, stepson Sandy (Darlene), stepdaughter Betty (George) and sister Elma. She also leaves several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
