Obituary of Janet Poyner
We are saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Janet Poyner, nee Caygill on Sunday, May 20, 2018, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Mum was predeceased by her husband, Alan Poyner (2009). She is survived by her children, Alison, Deborah and husband Rick, Tony and wife Brigid. Jan will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Gareth and his wife Kristal, Chrissy and her husband Jim, Jen and husband Ryan, Greg, Kristen, Josephine, Daniel and Gavin. The great-grandchildren, Victoria, Jocelyn, Hudson, Irelyn, Caeden, Logan, Riley and Erin will also feel her loss.
Janet was a strong and independent woman who led an adventure-filled life. Born in Derby, England in April, 1934, Mum started work at age 15 with British Rail. Using her discount travel, she visited Scotland, Wales and Ireland, often traveling on her own. She had her own motorbike and would have raced bikes with her brother if she had been allowed. Instead, she traveled the countryside in the Peak district and across counties to visit her family. At age 20, she became a police woman at a time when very few police forces even employed women.
At the Police Training course, she met and fell in love with Alan. Her love led her all over the world as together they lived in Nottingham, Toronto, Yately, Singapore, Cardiff, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Montreal. With her discount air fares, Mum was often flying back and forth across Europe and Asia or the North Atlantic to visit her children in Canada.
Mun was the ultimate Mother, giving of herself to support her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She supported them quietly by working providing meals and care to all. Mum had strong opinions but she always listened carefully to each of us and we all thought she was our best friend. Watching her decline in recent years has been heart breaking but even to the end there were glimpses of the vibrant, stubborn woman who had a life well-lived. We are grateful for the kindness and care she received at Lanark Heights Long Term Care.
Donations to the Alzheimer Society or a charity of your choice are appreciated.
There will be a private family service.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Janet
