Obituary of James Simon
SIMON , James Matthew “Jim” – age 71, Indian Brook, passed away peacefully at home on November 15, 2018. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Martin and Helen Simon.
Jim was devoted to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed working with steam locomotives. He loved history and was a fountain of knowledge. He was a respected elder and advisor concerning First Nations rights and issues. Jim had many varied interests and was a wonderful story teller with a great sense of humor. Jim was central to the First Supreme Court Case concerning 1752 Treaty Rights in Canada in 1985.
Jim is survived by his wife, Violet; children, James (Darcy Sack), Andrea (Mike) Kingham, Serena (Douglas Paul) Simon, Philomema Simon, Crystal Simon, Rodderick (Autumn Maloney) Gould, Martin Simon, Sarah Simon, Matthew Simon; 13 grandchildren; brother Pierre “Ricky” Simon; god child Shelly Woods; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by siblings, Ben Morris, John Nibby, Annie Ives, Veronica Halverson.
Visitation will be held in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, 7-9pm Friday, November 16, 3-5 & and 7-9pm Saturday, November 17, 11am-4pm, and 7-9pm Sunday, November 18, 2018. Funeral service will be 2:30pm, Monday, November 19, 2018 in St. Kateri Roman Catholic Church, Indian Brook, Father Ron Cairns Celebrant. Interment to be held at a later date.
