The peaceful passing of J. Ralph Hunter of Springhill, NS occurred at the Cumberland Regional Health Centre on July 2, 2018 Born in Springhill on July 22, 1927, he was the second son of the late Wylie and Violet (Churchill) Hunter. Ralph joined the Royal Canadian Airforce in 1957 and was posted to Greenwood, NS, Metz, France, and Halifax during his military career. He also served with the UN Peace Keeping Unit in Ismalia, Egypt in 1974-1975. He later worked in Finance for the City of Halifax. He married Elspa Nelson of Amherst in 1950 and they had two sons, Keith and David. Elspa died in 1992 and in 1999 he married Audrey MacDonald of Springhill. He is survived by his sons, Keith (Wendy) of Oxford, NS and David (Ann) of Parksville, BC; two granddaughters, Emily (Jonathan) Rowe of St. John’s, NL and Maggie Hunter of Calgary, AB; one great granddaughter, Frances Rowe of St. John’s. He is also survived by his wife Audrey MacDonald and her children and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Gerald of North Bay ON. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are entrusted to MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Oxford.
