Helen was born in Emerson, Manitoba to the late William and

proud of her Manitoba upbringing. She met her husband Lloyd in Emerson
as a result of his job transfer from NB with bank of Nova Scotia. They
were married in 1948 and eventually had two sons. In 1951, Lloyd
accepted a transfer to Minto, NB, where they were warmly adopted by
the community and maintained lifelong friendships. Lloyd was
transferred again in 1953 to Fredericton where they had three more
children.
Helen was very active in Gibson Memorial United Church and
the UCW. She was a Brownie leader, volunteered with the Immigrant
Society, the Fredericton soup kitchen and had 35 years with the Dr.
Everett Chalmers Hospital Auxiliary, for which she received a plaque
in 2014. A highlight of her time as Auxiliary President was meeting
Prince Charles. Another passion of Helen’s was traveling and
touring, which she did extensively throughout Canada and the US as
well as Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Hawaii, Caribbean and
Mexico. Her last trip was at the age of 87 to visit her son and
daughter-in-law Reid and Claire in Ireland.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her
husband Lloyd; son David and sisters Anne, Mary and Kathleen. She is
survived by her children Reid (Claire Nagle), Brian (Paula Healey),
Laurel (Ron Stanger) and Ken (Sue Blanchard); daughter-in-law
Alexandra Milburn; grandchildren Liam (Heather) and Seonead (Nick
Zajac) Milburn, Vinny, Alex and Ian Milburn, Jenn (Harley Varty) and

Skinner.

her many friends for their love and support.
