FOOT, Harold William (Bill) Charles
May 21, 1923 – May 9, 2018
While he stood firm and strong on land,
his heart was and always will be on the sea.
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Harold (Bill) Foot on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at the age of 94 years in Calgary, Alberta.
Harold was born in West Ham, England, and grew up a stones throw from Boleyn Ground, the home of his beloved West Ham United. His childhood was fun filled, attending Hammers games with his father, playing soccer with his brother Roy, and riding his racing bike. While full of joy, childhood was short lived. By 16 World War II had arrived and he and his family lived through the horror of the 1940 bombing raids. At the ripe age of 17 he had joined the Royal Navy and would spend the next 4 years risking his life in the North Atlantic in World War II.
In 1947 Harold met the love of his life, Isabella Wallace and after a brief romance they began 67 years of married life together.
In 1953 Harold and Isabella left family and friends behind and bravely set off for a life in Canada with their two young sons, Neal and Raymond. Harold immediately landed a job with CP police and stayed with CP until his retirement in 1987. In retirement Harold enjoyed many great days at Fanshawe golf course in London, Ontario and he and Isabella were active in CP Pensioners; bowling, attending dinners and dances and travelling. Harold and Isabella relocated to Calgary in 2001 where they lived the rest of their lives.
Harold was predeceased by his wife Isabella in 2014, and leaves his memory to be cherished by his sons; Neal (Kathryn) and Raymond (Catherine); grandsons Ken (Janice) and Matthew (Lena); grandson Kyle (Jamie Munro) and granddaughter Lauren and fiancée Nick McWhirter; granddaughter Jennifer and Grant Woolgar, grandson Brian (Megan); grandson James and fiancée Brenda Lynn Ukrainiac. Harold also leaves great grandchildren; Allison and Scott; Sydney and Nolan; Yannicia; Kylie and Evan; and Jayda. He will also be missed by his brother Roy, and many other family members in the UK. His family will miss his unconditional love, positive attitude, strength of character, sense of humour, and his unwavering lifelong loyalty and devotion to West Ham United and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
A Celebration of Harold’s Life will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Eden Brook Funeral Home (17 Ave SW and Lower Springbank RD) at 1:00 pm.
