Obituary Overview
Gwendolyn Catherine Fader
FADER, Gwendolyn Catherine – With saddened hearts, we said goodbye to our beloved mother, Gwen Fader, 90, on July 4, 2018, after a long battle with Alzheimers. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Hazel Anderson, and spent her early years living in Amherst, NS. She worked with the Royal Bank for 15 years, both in Amherst, and later in Halifax, where she met her future husband Brit. They moved to Lower Sackville, where they raised their three children. She was an avid gardener and loved the outdoors. Her beloved mayflowers, her raspberry patch and the many birds who frequented her yard always put a smile on her face. You could often see her taking daily walks down Sackville Drive as she wasn’t one to sit still, she always wanted to be busy. In her younger years, she also enjoyed hiking and cross country skiing with her family and friends. She lived in her kitchen, where she visited with all who stopped by. Baking was a favorite activity, especially to the delight of her family and friends who enjoyed her many treats. Her homemade bread and famous chipit cookies were always popular with everyone and in high demand! She was a long time member and “unofficial greeter” of Sackville United Baptist Church, always the first to welcome visitors. She sang in the choir, and was financial secretary for several years. She is survived by her daughter, Liana, Middle Sackville; sons, Brit (Monique), Dartmouth, and Chris (Bonnie), Calgary; three grandchildren, Heather (Amy), Halifax; Sophia and Macklin, at home; two sisters, Hazel Parent, Lunenburg; and Beryl Anderson, Ottawa; Sister-in-Law Florence Anderson, Amherst; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, LeBriton (Brit) Fader; brother, Loran Anderson; brother-in-Law, Rev. Hazen Parent, and cousin Violet Fader. Cremation has taken place. At her request, there will be no visitation or funeral. Interment in Oakridge Memory Gardens, Middle Sackville. A “Celebration of Life” drop-in will be held Wednesday, July 18th, from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Sackville United Baptist Church, 1240 Old Sackville Road, Middle Sackville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sackville United Baptist Church Reno Fund, or to the Beacon House Food Bank, Lower Sackville. Our most sincere appreciation to the loving and devoted staff of Ivy Meadows, for the wonderful care our mother received during her stay, and especially during her final days.
