Obituary for
Glen Daryl MacDorman
Glen Daryl MacDorman – 63, Debert, N.S., passed away peacefully in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, N.S. on November 16, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Toronto, Ontario, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ethel MacDorman. At the age of 21, he moved to Debert. He obtained his commercial Pilot’s license at the Truro Flying Club and became an instructor there as well. Following this, he landed a position as a pilot for Forest Protection Limited in New Brunswick and was with them for over a 34 year period. He was loved by all of his co-workers and was a friend and mentor to many there. He was meticulous in his work and ensured the safety of all who flew with him.
A true, loyal friend, mentor, jokester and story teller to whom all people gravitated to. He was a true people person. Glen enjoyed sports especially hockey and was a defenseman for the Debert Legion Blues. He also enjoyed watching and playing golf and worked as groundskeeper at Debert Golf Club for two summers. He was a talented drummer – even laying claim to teaching the drummer of the Canadian group “The Good Brothers”. He loved playing his father’s fiddle and even was talented on the spoons. Most of all, he was a very talented singer and enjoyed Karaoke – singing and performing Elvis tributes.
He loved his morning newspaper by the fire and having his quiet time that he called his “peace on earth.”
He was a beloved husband, father, father in law, “Grampo”, brother and brother in law who will be missed by all.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Jane (Totten); daughters, Ashley MacDorman, Debert, Kaitlyn (Cisco) Smith, Cole Harbour; five grandchildren whom he lovingly called his little “pygmies”, Kaileena and Kingston MacDorman-Smith, Creelyn, Stella Jane and Jaxon MacDorman-Wright; brother, Ronnie MacDorman and sister in law, Jackie Matko, St. Charles, Ontario; sister, Linda (Mike) Davies, St. Catherines, Ontario. He will be dearly loved and missed forever.
A Celebration of his Life will be held Wednesday, November 21 at 6pm in the Debert Legion, 1252 Masstown Rd., Debert. Donations may be made to any local SPCA or charity of choice.
