In Loving Memory
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George William Fairfax age 81 of Amherst at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Friday, December 28, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.
Born January 20, 1937 in Amherst he was the son of the late Wendell and Thelma (Jones) Fairfax.
George attended school in Amherst. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and was based out of both CFB Halifax and CFB Cornwallis. George was also a professional driver and worked for Archibalds Transfer in Amherst, Maine- Maritime Express Lines in Oakville Ontario, and Howards Transfer out of PE. He then held a position with the Registry of Motor Vehicles Weights and Measures branch at the scale-house in Fort Lawrence NS. George enjoyed the outdoors, loved camping and four-wheeling. When not outdoors he enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. He was also active with the Lions Club achieving the position of Zone Chairman, the Knights of Columbus serving as State Warden and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 10 where he held the position of Vice President.
One of George’s greatest pleasures was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
George is survived by his loving wife & soulmate Sharon (White), daughters, Wanda (Gary) Fairfax Tibbo, Mt. Pearl NL, Tracy (Michael) Hachey, Riverview, NB, and stepdaughters Angela Legere (Richard Evers), Rosevale NB, Bonnie Everill (John Dickie), Amherst NS, and Joanna Fowler (Kevin), Timberlea NS, and stepsons, Tom (Mary-Jane), Brown Ottawa ON, and Steven Brown, Rosevale NB, 19 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, special aunt, Elizabeth Jones, New York, as well as many nieces, nephews and honorary daughter, Robin Arenburg, Amherst NS.
Besides his parents George was predeceased by an infant daughter Jill-Lynn, brother Ted and sister, Marva.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with parish prayers at 7:30 p.m. all from Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (902) 667-9906.
A funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Deacon Howard Gotell presiding, at the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, 63 Church St., Amherst NS with a reception to follow in the parish hall.
In lieu of floral tributes, memorial contributions in George’s memory may be made to the Atlantic Charismatic Renewal Center or charity of your choice.
