George E King

George E King December 19 1924 – November 13 2018

George E. King
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Ernest King after a long and rewarding life. Born in Peterborough, Ontario in 1924, he resided in Windsor, Ontario from 1926 onwards. In October 1954, George was introduced on a blind date to a Registered Nurse from Ridgetown Ontario named H. Dorothy King (nee Hudson). Four months later they were married and spent 60 wonderful years together before our mother passed in 2015. Such was his love for our mother that throughout his life George carried the original scrap of paper with the contact info for that first date in his wallet. George and Dorothy were totally committed to their three children- George William King (Kimberly), Jane Van Buskirk (Craig) and Margaret DeGurse (Stephen). As well they were so proud of their 11 grandchildren- Parker, Andrew, Spencer, Meghan, Courtney, Kyle, Vaughan, Hayden, Nolan, Hannah and Benton. He will be missed by his best friend and dear companion, Irene Kapasi.
George served with pride in the Canadian Army during World War II despite his young age. Following a career in sales, he and our mother founded the well-known local industrial equipment firm King Materials Handling Limited in 1975. George was an avid and knowledgeable fan of both big band and jazz music. He was a passionate (and usually suffering) fan of both the Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers. He was also a proud member of the Maramos Shriners Club. Known by all as the consummate gentleman, George was active in the community until his recent illness precluded him from driving.
He will be missed by the wonderful staff at Oak Park LaSalle and the many friends he made there over the past three years. Thanks to his physician Dr. Dave Paterson and the amazing health care team at Windsor Regional Hospital (Met Campus.) To a person they were relentless in their efforts to provide George the best health care. We are forever grateful for their compassion and commitment. Special thanks to Lyndee Doherty for her assistance.
If desired, remembrances may be made to the John McGivney Children’s Centre or the Hospice of Windsor.
