74, of Bedford passed away suddenly on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 in the QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax. Born in Halifax he was the son of the late Edward and Violet (Bonnell) Higgins. Gary retired from the Halifax Police Department holding many positions, Motorcycle Detail and Warrants Officer and titles in between, retiring in 1997 with 32 years of service. Gary was an avid golfer and drove every winter to Florida. He also enjoyed spending time fishing and hunting with his friends. He will be fondly missed by his family and many friends and also his morning coffee crew. Survived by his son, Kevin (Michelle Bennett), Timberlea; Kelly, Cole Harbour; grandchildren, Jayvon, Makell, Taylor, Matthew; great grandchildren, Harmony, Havyn; his companion and best friend for the last 17 years, Gail Carson; father-in-law, Hugh Leigh. Predeceased by his wife, Barbara. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday December 21st in the Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy’s Cove Road, Upper Tantallon. Funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, December 22nd in St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 1288 Bedford Hwy, Bedford. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to charity of choice.
