Freeman Thomas Shupe
1935-2018
Freeman Thomas Shupe, husband of Eleanor Shupe of Oromocto,
NB, passed away at Oromocto Public Hospital on Saturday, February
24th, 2018 at the age of 82. Born on July 18th, 1935 in Martins Point,
Lunenberg Co., NS, he was the son of the late William and Daisy
(Anderson) Shupe. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his
brother, Garfield Shupe of Quincy, Mass.
Survived by his wife of 57 years, Eleanor (Bubar) Shupe;
daughters, Connie Sephton (Gerry) of Edmonton, AB and Pamela Catry
(Chris) of Kingston, ON; nine grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; brother, Arthur Shupe (Joan) of Hubbards,
NS.
Freeman was United by faith and a member of St. Luke’s
Chapel, CFB Gagetown, since 1977. He was a member of the Canadian
Armed Forces for 34 years. He served in Petawawa, ON, Gagetown, NB,
Germany, two tours in Cyprus and St. John’s, NL. Freeman served with
RCD, 8 CH, 2 BN Blackwatch, 2 RCR, 22 FD ENG, 40 COR, Base Supply and
Mil Dist St. John’s, NL. He was a life member of the RCD and 8 CH
Association as well as a member of the 8 CH Centurian Club and the
Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 93.
Freeman will be remembered for his volunteer work at St.
Luke’s Chapel and St. Luke’s Thrift Shop, Legion Color Party,
attending at schools during Remembrance Week, manning the poppy table
at the mall, visiting with the vets at the vet’s centre and helping
serve dinners at the Legion.
Visitation will be held at Oromocto Funeral Home on Monday,
February 26th, from 6:00-8:00 pm and at St. Luke’s Chapel on Tuesday,
February 27th from 12:00 – 1:30 pm. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #
93 will hold a tribute service at the funeral home on Monday evening
at 5:45 pm. The funeral will be held from St. Luke’s Chapel, Base
Gagetown, on Tuesday, February 27th, 2018 at 2:00 pm with Padre Levy
officiating. Interment will be in Oromocto Pioneer Gardens in the
spring. For those who wish, donations in Freeman’s memory can be made
to The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #93, Oromocto Pioneer Gardens
Cemetery Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice.
