Francis Frank Gregory Whitty 2018

Francis (Frank) Gregory Whitty
Ingonish
On September 21, 2018, Francis Gregory Whitty (Frank), aged 58, passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Neil’s Harbour on January 13, 1960. Frank the oldest of Maurice and Violet (Scott) Whitty, loved nothing more than his family, especially his three nephews, his mom, dad and siblings. Although he acted like a tough guy, he was gentle, caring and very sensitive.
In his early years, Frank fished for about 20 years with his father and uncle. He also worked out west as a labourer with the Labourer’s Union #92 for several years.
After returning to Ingonish, he bought his first house and became a taxi driver, starting his own business “Ingo Cab”. He enjoyed spending time with kids and the elderly and could often be found taking seniors to their appointments and grocery shopping, often sitting with them to keep them company.
Frank loved watching sports and was a long-time devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Montreal Canadians. He always wore one of his many Steelers caps.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, George and Gertrude Whitty, maternal grandparents Thomas Scott, Casilda (Cavanaugh-Scott) and Maurice Whitty, brothers; Joseph (who died in infancy) and Blair.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his brothers Leonard (Clare), and Perry (Lisa), and sister Wanda (Dean Barron) and three nephews Alex, Brenden and Brett, who were the light of his life and his dearest friends. He will also be missed by his many cousins and special friends, aunts and uncles.
The funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Ingonish Beach, on Monday, September 24, at 11:00 am with Fr. Alphonsus Iwuji officiating. There will be a brief visitation in the church prior to the Mass starting at 10:00 am. A funeral reception will follow in the Ingonish Community Centre.
Donations may be made to North of Smokey Palliative Care, Neil’s Harbour, NS, B0C 1N0.
Special thanks to the doctors, nurses, paramedics and staff at Cape Breton Regional Hospital ICU and Buchanan Memorial Hospital.
