It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our
beloved mother, Florence Adelle MacIsaac on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, in
St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, at the advanced
age of 99 years.
Born January 29, 1919, in Antigonish, to the late John J. and
Annie Jane (Sullivan) MacNeil of Giant’s Lake, Florence was the
youngest and last surviving of eleven children. Her early years were
spent on the family farm and being “Special Aunt” to her
many nieces and nephews.
Mom was a gifted cook, homemaker and entertainer.
She loved people, especially children, and made everyone welcome in
her home. Her children, grandchildren, and great
grandchildren were the world to her as evident by the smile on her
face whenever she was in their presence. Mom loved to knit,
especially socks and mittens and before you knew it, she had another
pair ready for someone. She loved playing cards, especially
Crib and 45’s. Mom was a member of the Oak and Owl
Club, St Andrews and St. Andrew’s CWL.
On September 2, 1947, in St. Andrews, she married John Angus
MacIsaac, Giant’s Lake, and they began a love story that lasted 56
years until Dad passed away in 2004. From this union eight children
were born: Paul (Patsy), Isaac’s Harbour; Patsy (Bill) MacLean, Lower
South River; Jane (Bub) Aker, Antigonish; Carroll (Marlene), Cape
Jack; John Daniel (Ann), Giant’s Lake; Neil (Joan), St.
Andrews; Leo (Paula), Giant’s Lake; and Adrian (Sheila), Lower
Sackville; grandchildren, Vance MacIsaac (Alicia MacNeil), Christopher
(Cheryl) MacIsaac, Sheena (Mitchell) DeCoste, Bryan (Julie) MacLean,
Craig MacLean (Bevin MacDonald), Shanna (Jeff) Hopkins, Shirlyn (Sean)
Donovan, Karen (Richard) Hayne, Mark (Alicia) MacIsaac, Holly (Jeff)
Stoss, Ryan (Amanda) MacIsaac, Steven MacIsaac (Kim Lydon), Matthew
MacIsaac, Jeaniece (Kevin) Frick, Jenna MacIsaac (Dwayne Blais), Alyse
MacIsaac, Andrew (Chelsey) MacIsaac, Jarett MacIsaac, Iain (Shannon)
MacIsaac, Tyler MacIsaac, Darcy MacIsaac, Derek MacIsaac (Stephanie
Ponsford), Danielle ( Noel) Cormstock, and Khristine MacIsaac, and 33
great grandchildren.
Mom is predeceased by her husband John Angus (2004),
grandson, Leo Paul MacIsaac (1988),parents, John J (1947), Annie
(1960), siblings, Mary Callahan (1966), Peter (1966), Jerry (1982),
Annie Hadley (1999), Sadie MacIsaac (1995), Campbell (1989), John F.
(1989), Florence Marie (1912), Cecilia MacIntosh (2008), Margaret
(1932).
Visitation will be held in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135
College Street, Antigonish, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.
Funeral Mass will be in St. Andrew’s Church, St.
Andrews, on Friday at 1:00 pm with Reverend Charles Cameron presiding.
Burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery, Giant’s
Lake.
The family would like to send special thanks to Dr. Steve
Gallant for years of dedication to Mom and the nurses and
staff at St Martha’s Regional Hospital for the exceptional care given
to Mom during her last days.
