Obituary Overview
Faustino Sanchez
Faustino Sanchez
We celebrate the life of Mr. Faustino Sanchez, a loving husband, father, and friend.
Faustino was born on July 10, 1925 in a mountainous, rugged region of southern Spain. His family’s eldest son, he chose his own path in life as a young man and made his way north to Barcelona. There, with his gregarious personality, he excelled at door-to-door sales. With his warm smile and exemplary driving skills, he later became a double-decker bus driver, singing out the stops to his passengers. At a local dance, he met the deep and enduring love of his life, Maria. They married, and soon after their first son, Pablo (Shelley) was born. In 1960 Faustino, Maria, and baby Pablo, along with his much respected and beloved mother-in-law, Maria Molina, moved to Canada, settling in Ottawa. There, they started a new life and watched their cherished family grow to include sons Emilio (Carmen) and Faustino (Gisele) and daughters Elisabeth and Carmen (Joseph). With his confident presence, and warm and friendly demeanor, he settled well in the Glebe. Hard working, Faustino held many jobs over his lifetime in Canada. Yet he always remained strongly connected to his Spanish roots through his role in founding and volunteering at the local Spanish Club. He enjoyed spending time with the other members of his wife’s family, who had also come to Ottawa, including his brothers-in-law Paco, Angel and Antonio and his sisters-in-law Margarita, Filo and Pilar. Friday nights were reserved for epic domino games and not to be missed. A people person, many wonderful memories were forged at the family cottage at Lac Corbeau where Faustino’s booming voice could be heard carrying across the lake. No phone was required as he called out to friends and neighbors from the shoreline. The smell of Spanish dishes such as paella and migas, as well as the sound of laughter and flamenco music filled the air when Faustino was in residence at what felt to him like his country palace. Active and strong into his nineties, Faustino’s final year of life was challenging as both age and infirmity dogged him. His true life ended as it began, in the presence of Maria his wife of 60 years, on December 19, 2018. His favorite toast was ‘Salud, dinero, y amor!’ Above all, Faustino’s life was characterized by his glowing and ever present “Amor.” He will be missed by all, especially his thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 1 to 4pm on Sunday December 23rd at
